Dr. Trent Montgomery
Interim Dean, School of Engineering and Technology
Alabama A&M University

Dr. V. Trent Montgomery is Interim Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology and Professor of Electrical Engineering at Alabama A&M University. In this position, he is responsible for effective operations of the School, which includes enhancing the quality of curricula, facilities, students, and professors; enrollment management; research policies and acquisitions; and acquiring additional resources to carry out the functions listed above. Dr. Montgomery has over 30 years of engineering education, practice and administration. His areas of specialty include computer architecture, embedded systems, and non-linear electronics.

Dr. Ching-Jen Chen
Dean, College of Engineering
Florida A&M University and Florida State University

After arriving in the U.S. in 1960, Dr. Ching-Jen Chen received his M.S. in mechanical engineering from Kansas State University and his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Case-Western Reserve University. In addition to Dr. Chen’s service as dean for both Florida A&M University and Florida State University, he also acts as professor of mechanical engineering and works as a research scientist with the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Institute of Florida State University.

Dr. Eric J. Sheppard
Dean, School of Engineering and Technology
Hampton University

Dr. Eric Sheppard came to Hampton University in January 2004 from the National Science Foundation, where he was program director of the Division of Graduate Education. He received his B.S. in aerospace engineering from Boston University, where he was a NACME Scholar, and his M.S. and Sc.D. degrees in aeronautics and astronautics from MIT, where he was a GEM Fellow. After leaving MIT, he taught at Tuskegee University and the University of Maryland, College Park.

Dr. James H. Johnson Jr.
Dean, College of Engineering, Architecture, and Computer Sciences
Professor of Civil Engineering
Howard University

Author of 50 scholarly articles and five-time book contributor and/or co-editor, Dr. James Johnson, Jr. has research areas of interest that include the treatment and disposal of hazardous substances, the evaluation of environmental policy issues in relation to
minorities, the development of environmental curricula, and the employment of strategies intended to expand the pool of under-represented groups in science, technology, engineering, and math. Dr. Johnson received his B.S. from Howard University, M.S. from the University of Illinois, and Ph.D. from the University of Delaware.

Dr. Eugene M. DeLoatch
Dean, School of Engineering
Morgan State University

Dr. Eugene DeLoatch holds two bachelor’s degrees--one in mathematics from Tougaloo College and another in electrical engineering from Lafayette College. He also has a master’s degree in electrical engineering and a doctorate in bioengineering from the Polytechnic University of Brooklyn. Dr. DeLoatch is a member of the American Society of Engineering Education and the Editorial Board of the Journal of Engineering Education and is chair of the Council of Engineering Deans of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Dr. Joseph Monroe
Dean, College of Engineering
North Carolina A&T State University

Dr. Joseph Monroe is a computer scientist, scholar, and advocate for under-represented groups in computing, particularly African Americans. During the past 25 years, his work has primarily focused on establishing, developing, and evaluating programs of higher education in computer science. The first African-American permanent professor at the U.S. Service Academy and a retired Air Force full colonel, he holds a B.S. in engineering mathematics from A&T and an M.S. and a Ph.D. in computer science from Texas A&M.

Dr. Milton Bryant
Dean, College of Engineering
Prairie View A&M University

Dr. Milton Bryant became dean of Prairie View A&M University’s College of Engineering in 1997. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Florida Southern College, Dr. Bryant went on to Texas A&M University where he earned his master’s degree in engineering and his doctorate in industrial engineering. Dr. Bryant took his skills to the U.S. Air Force and worked as a navigator, electronic warfare officer, staff scientist, and associate professor from 1958 to 1978.

Dr. Habib Mohamadian
Dean, College of Engineering
Southern University

Dr. Habib Mohamadian received his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and his M.S. and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Louisiana State University-Baton Rouge. A member of the Southern University faculty since 1979, he is now a professor of mechanical engineering. His research interests include material characterization, solid modeling, and failure analysis. His educational effort includes the development of new techniques for assessment of engineering education outcomes to increase institutional effectiveness.

Dr. Decatur Rogers
Dean, College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science
Tennessee State University

Throughout his 26-year career in academia, Dr. Decatur Rogers has been drawn back continually to his alma mater, Tennessee State University (TSU), where he received his B.S. in mechanical engineering in 1967. His first teaching job was as assistant professor of mechanical engineering at TSU from 1975 to 1976. He has held his current post since 1988. Dr. Rogers received M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering and engineering management and a doctorate in mechanical engineering from Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Legand L. Burge Jr.
Dean, College of Engineering, Architecture, and Physical Sciences
Tuskegee University

Dr. Legand L. Burge Jr. is responsible for efficient and effective operations of Tuskegee University’s College of Engineering. His research interests include information theory, coding theory, information assurance, signal processing, acquisition issues, Six Sigma management principles, and communications. Under his
leadership, the college continues to be a top 10 producer of engineering graduates who possess the technical talent to compete in industry, government, and academia. Dr. Burge holds degrees in electrical engineering from Oklahoma State University.
